With two Berkeley Fire Department trucks parked near the entrance and another on the perimeter path a hundred yards in, it looked from a distance as if a major emergency were underway in the park at mid-afternoon today. Fortunately it was only a training exercise. In the fall when the park gets very dry there is a risk of wildfire. The BFD was training how to respond if that should occur. Firefighters hooked up hoses to the tall red hydrants on the green and checked that the valves worked and there was enough water pressure. They also checked the hoses. They sprayed the water on the grass, where it would do the most good.
