Monks on the Hill

Their radiant saffron robes caught my eye.  They were taking pictures in the glowing light of sunset, up on the hill behind the kite lawn. I approached, and they promptly recruited me, as I thought they would, to take some pictures of all three of them facing into the sun.  That done, I took a picture of them with my camera, and then one of them took a picture of me with one of the others.  All of this was arranged with gestures.  Other than the word “Thai” they spoke not a word of English, and I not a word of their language.  I gather that they were visiting either UC Berkeley and/or the Thai temple on Russell Street.  People come to Cesar Chavez Park from all over the world. I wonder what they thought of our park and our city.
