This female Mallard Duck was ambling along in the grass next to the perimeter path on the west side of the park yesterday near sunset. It seemed quite undisturbed by human footsteps. I’ve seen male/female mallard pairs in this area before, but no male was obvious yesterday evening.
Just then a male human came along with a small loose dog. I asked the gentleman politely to leash his dog, but he mumbled something about what a sweet little dog he was, and walked on. Luckily the dog didn’t see the duck, and trouble was averted.
