Now Blooming: Cleveland Sage

A big bush along the west side of the loop path, in the island between the paved and unpaved branches not far north of the parking circle, is in bloom now.  Pretty pinkish-bluish flowers that pop out of crown-like clusters of pods attract pollinators, like this bee.  I had no idea of this plant’s name when I first posted this item. A visit to Berkeley Hort cleared that up quickly.  The first staff member I encountered took one look at the image on my cellphone and said, without hesitation, that’s a Salvia Clevelandii.  Berkeley Hort is a wonderful place, staffed by people who really know something.
